Hydrosalpinx

    Hello everyone,

    I recently discovered water in my left fallopian tube and this is supposed to be a problem for a transfer because the water could kill the embryo. Does anyone have any experience with this?

    Of course, I'm now wondering whether I already had this with my past transfers last year ;(


    I am now due to have an operation, but I am scared... Will I still be a woman? What consequences will this have for me apart from the desire to have children?

    Hello Oskar, I've actually never heard that before. What exactly is being operated on? Is the fallopian tube to be removed? As far as I know, this has no effect unless you want to get pregnant naturally. The ovary, which produces the hormones, remains intact. So you shouldn't actually feel any changes. All the best for you.

    Exactly: the fallopian tubes should be removed. Both right away, the other prophylactically "because I don't need them anymore"... but I can't really get to grips with it... it's a hurdle for me... oh man... now we've finally found a new doctor we trust and then this ;(

    In fact, there is a study that water in the fallopian tubes prevents implantation. I'll have a look later to see if I can find it.

    It's like a small permanent inflammation at this point, I would definitely have both fallopian tubes removed before the transfer!

    I had an ectopic pregnancy in 2023. Both fallopian tubes were then removed as a precaution. To minimize the risk of having another ectopic pregnancy (it was a big deal).... since then, but it hasn't worked out so far. I listened to the doctors at the time and had it done.

    Dear all,

    I have now been to two surgeons and both of them were not sure whether it was really a hydrosalpinx or perhaps just a cyst. But you could only see it exactly during the laparoscopy... As I never had any inflammation, I wondered from the start where the hydrosalpinx could have come from? Could the strong hormone administration for the transferees have triggered something like this?

    A hydrosalphinx can be caused by many things. Chlamydia infection, endometriosis, a dead EL-SS and various injuries to the EL (laparoscopy, etc.).

    I would wait for the BS but also have an inflamed EL removed.

    Thank you very much for your reply! I actually don't know whether I should have the laparoscopy. It's no walk in the park and I'm not really convinced that I have blocked fallopian tubes. The origin is just too mysterious for me. I've never had an infection, never had chlamydia or endometriosis and until the summer of 2025 there was never anything conspicuous and I've had lots of ultrasounds and other tests, no plasma cells etc... The only possibility would be that I got endometriosis from the hormones for the transfers last summer, but is that likely?

    Hello everyone,

    I've now had a laparoscopy and the picture was actually completely different from the ultrasound. I didn't have a hydrosalpinx but lots of small and larger cysts in my abdomen, probably grade 2 endometriosis. I'm still completely confused. I had to decide in advance - without a clear diagnosis - what should be done and was completely overwhelmed. The fallopian tubes are now still in as they were healthy. I'm actually quite happy about that, but I'm now quite scared that it was stupid, a potential risk. Maybe I should have just had a diagnostic laparoscopy first?

    Dear Purehaeven, I am very afraid of adhesions due to the operation. Small cysts were removed in many places and that means that I have wound surfaces for adhesions everywhere, doesn't it? Also on the fallopian tubes...

    Who performed the operation - I think your operation was a bit more specialized and that's why you were probably in "specialized hands" and not in the gynaecologist's office at the local hospital?

    My experience is that the surgeon must know his trade.

    I had two major endo-surgeries (grade 4) lasting 3-4 hours during the course of my desire to have children - of course I looked for specialized doctors ...

    Of course you are torn and don't want to damage the uterus, but permanent inflammatory processes are also not an alternative 😬...

    In Prague, the doctor couldn't detect any endo at all and I didn't even have to "down regulate" before the transfer ... and it worked straight away!

    My experience is that a well-repaired endo is not a problem ... unfortunately, in my case, the endo must have massively damaged the egg quality ... so don't worry too much !!!!
