    👉 Stigma and stress in the unfulfilled desire to have children in a digital context

    Many affected women experience the desire to have children as emotionally stressful - and content on social media in particular can influence these feelings.

    📊 The aim of the study is to better understand these relationships in order to provide more targeted support for you in the long term.

    My name is Ines Schiewe and I am the initiator of this study as part of my psychology degree and Master's thesis at the HFH (Hamburger Fern-Hochschule). The topic is very close to my heart as I want to better understand how we navigate the digital world as we go through this emotionally challenging time.

    Thank you very much for your interest in my study and the trust you have placed in me by registering.

    First of all, I would like to congratulate you from the bottom of my heart - it is very good news that you are currently pregnant.

    However, after reviewing your details, I have to inform you that unfortunately you cannot take part in the survey at this time. I would like to briefly explain to you why this is purely for scientific reasons:

    This particular survey is about precisely recording the emotions and experiences of a currently unfulfilled desire to have children. An existing pregnancy changes the hormonal and emotional situation considerably. In psychology, we fear "superimposition effects" in such a case: The current situation is so formative that it could scientifically distort the view of the previous period of waiting.

    Please do not take this as a personal decision. We want to ensure that the results of the study reflect the current reality of women without an existing pregnancy as accurately as possible. Women who already have children but are currently or previously faced with the challenge of an unfulfilled desire form a different comparison group (this was meant by previous experiences). By taking part, you have nevertheless made an important contribution, because you have shown the research that you previously had an unfulfilled desire to have children, which has now been fulfilled. Every vote counts!

    I'm getting back to you briefly - my study is only running until May 17, 2026 and I'm in the final spurt!

    100+ women have already shared their experiences 💛 The more women take part, the more meaningful the results will be - and the more valuable they will be for the further development of psychosocial counseling services.

    As a reminder of what this is about: I am investigating the connection between social media and the stress experienced by women with an unfulfilled desire to have children - for my thesis at HFH Hamburg.
