Information on donors

    Hello everyone 🙂

I am currently looking for clinics and countries for egg donation. I am leaning towards open donation, but am also looking at anonymous donation as a plan B.

Could you please tell me which country you were/are in and what information you received about the donor?

I am concerned that with an anonymous donation, the donors may not be honest about medical information - for example, illnesses in the family - as they can never be found anyway (except via DNA tests). I'm afraid that this will result in a kind of "black box". Perhaps you can help me further.

It is also important to me that the embryos can be genetically tested.

Thank you very much in advance for your answers - also via PN

    Hello tinycat,

Open egg donation is not allowed in

    • Denmark (very long experience)
    • Greece (since 2024)
    • Portugal

    is possible.

The donors are all genetically tested, which is actually normal in all fertility clinics, usually enshrined in law.

We have visited 50 fertility clinics in the member area on http://www.eizellspende.de and filmed and published exclusive insights and interviews with reproductive medicine. You can get an overview there.

    Best regards

    Claudia and Chris

Thank you very much Claudia and Chris,

Thank you very much for your message ☺️

Unfortunately, not all clinics do genetic testing of donors in Denmark. Last year I had conversations with two clinics in DK and they said that they don't do genetic testing on donors (maybe one of them said that). Testing on the donors (maybe one of them said that) and they do not do PGT-a testing on the resulting embryos. This information is from last year (2024). Maybe there is good news in the meantime and more possibilities.

By the way, in Austria open donation is also possible.

    Kind regards

    Hello,

You're right about PGT-A, it's not always possible in Denmark, just like here in Germany.

You're right about Austria, we just didn't list it because the waiting time there is extremely long and almost nobody has that time.

Is there a particular reason why PGT-A? For egg donation?

    Best regards

    Hello,

not only PGTa but also genetic tests on donors are not carried out in Denmark either, as I found out last year. That's why I canceled Denmark completely.

Pgta to minimize the risk of miscarriage, as I used to have Ashermann.

    Kind regards

    Hello Tinycat,

In DK, some clinics offer PGT-A (e.g. the Aagaard Clinic), which of course costs extra. Donors are asked about their family history of genetic diseases and tests are carried out for HIV and hepatitis as well as a genetic test for cystic fibrosis genes (cystic fibrosis). I don't know whether further genetic tests are carried out on the donor.

In addition to the physical characteristics (hair, skin and eye color, hair structure, ethnicity, height, weight, freckles), there is also a questionnaire, which varies in detail depending on the clinic, but includes questions about hobbies, profession, favorite subjects at school, hobbies as a child, childhood memories, character traits and the motivation to become a donor. Often there are also photos of children.

2 Blastos

    Hello Nini,

Thank you for your answer. The Aagard clinic said last year that they do not perform PGTa with egg donation. PGTa is only possible with your own eggs :(

All the information you mentioned about the donors is great. I just think they should do the genetic testing on the donors like they do in Spain or the Czech Republic. Then it would be perfect.

We were in England - also open donation.

PGTa is not regularly planned. They simply assume that the risk is low because the donor is young. We opted for it for the last three blastos (and paid extra for it) because I had two previous miscarriages.

    Hello Sala,

Thank you for the information. If I may ask, were all the embryos euploid, healthy or were there some that were not suitable for transfer?

I understand, I also had miscarriages and operations in the uterus, so PGTa is recommended, even with the younger eggs.

The result of the remaining 3 blastos was the same as the previous assessment: 2 were good and one was in the gray area. I wouldn't have tried that one again.

    The next attempt was successful.

    Hi Sala,

then it's good that you tested the blastos, you've probably saved yourself a transfer (all the medication, driving) or even a miscarriage. I think that's worth a lot.

    Best regards

    Hi Sala,

can you see photos of the donors or their children in England, like in DK?
