Nini First of all, congratulations, but unfortunately you're right, it sounds like very little. Did you get an explanation as to why this was the case? If I were you, I would at least ask where the problem was. Do you have problems with the sperm?

    LG

    Claudia & Chris

We had poor sperm quality two years ago due to medication. But after that we actually had a better spermiogram again. That's why I'm surprised at this poor rate... I'll ask about it...

Well, we finally got 2 blastos with 4BB quality from the 16 eggs and 7 fertilized eggs. Not exactly an exhilarating result, but I had expected worse from time to time (e.g. no blasto at all).

When I asked the embryologist, he said that the average fertilization rate with ICSI was 70%, but that this could vary from cycle to cycle. I did the maths - with a probability of around 10%, a result like ours can occur even if the fertilization rate is 70% (i.e. if you are simply unlucky). According to the embryologist, the sperm was fine. But of course it's still possible that it had fragmentation, which we didn't have tested (as there's nothing you can do about it apart from ICSI or waiting until the sperm quality improves. However, waiting any longer was out of the question for us, as my husband urgently wanted to take his medication again...). The blastocyst rate (2 blastocysts out of 7 fertilized eggs) is probably within the expected range, as they expect an average of approx. 33% blastocysts, which would be 2-3 out of 7. I have also read about a 66% blastocyst rate on the internet, but for us it has always been more like 33% (2 out of 5, 1 out of 3). So I'll chalk it up to bad luck twice and hope that we'll be lucky again for once with one of the two blasto transfers!

Do you know those sayings, especially when it comes to the second (or third...) child: "You have a great child, be happy! How many more times are you going to try? It costs so much time and money! There are also happy one-child families! There are other things in life too." And so on... Just now again over the holidays from the dear family. I know it's all meant kindly and an attempt to comfort. But it has the opposite effect. I don't feel that my wish for a second child is being taken seriously. I would sooo much like to have a second child, another baby, another miracle of pregnancy and birth, another first time. With the first child, I just firmly assumed that there would be a second one (it was so easy with the first - one try and poof, pregnant!) that every time I said "goodbye" (end of parental leave, weaning etc.) I always thought, well, it will come again. What if it doesn't come back after all? What if that was it now? So many of my daughter's playmates are having little brothers and sisters right now, and my daughter loves babies so much... How many times has she asked me "Mommy, do you have a baby in your belly too?" I hope so much that it will work out again...

    It is entirely your decision.

You decide when to stop and when not to stop.

These sayings are ill-considered but rarely mean any harm. They hit you anyway and, above all, they're annoying. I always ask myself who gives you the right to say that, why can't you just keep your mouth shut.

You also ask yourself what would have happened if we had tried again.....maybe it would have worked then......

I'm currently in 7+3 and we're super happy, I told my sister a few days ago. She was happy but also immediately asked if it was planned.....I could have freaked out, I just looked at her and asked if it makes a difference now??!!! My husband then said, yes, it was planned and we're very happy about it.....

    Another stupid question.....

So, do what you think is right and don't give a damn about the others. It's your body, your mind and your money. But make sure your current little family doesn't break up.

Hi Nini we have been trying since 2022 with a sibling. MA after heart attack 2022, ectopic pregnancy 2023 and 5x no implantation. We may try one more time in Greece. Then the money runs out.

Our son started having babies early. Mom, the stork should bring a baby not only for mom and dad but also for me.... or I want a baby to come into your belly. Were his sentences. It brings tears to your eyes. He'll soon be four.

At the moment I'm wondering whether I should really continue. I wanted less of an age difference and for them to be able to play together. That's no longer possible ..... and they're no longer full siblings either :( I'm really sad right now that it just didn't work out

Sometimes I also think that I want to be free to travel, enjoy everything with my son and concentrate fully on him. Somehow so much falls by the wayside during the treatments. And then a heaviness spreads, but I want to live lightly with my little treasure!

As we became parents late, well my husband is 8 years younger, it would also be nice if there were two of them when we are no longer there. I am an only child and never wanted to be an only child, for example.... :(

My fertility therapist once said it doesn't matter which unfulfilled desire for children it is, whether it's the 1st, 2nd or 3rd child. Everyone is entitled to be present and can be mourned. It makes no difference.

So I can understand you very well ....

Dear Fly, I feel very similar. I also had a hangover once. But I've pulled myself together to try again. I just don't think I want to let go of the idea yet... and now the menopause is probably starting even more. The cycle has been crazy and I don't even know where ZT1 is. I have another consultation with the doctor from Greece on Friday. I actually wanted to do a transfer next cycle...

    Dear Nini

I feel so much what you write. I have a son from our first attempt with my eggs. I am grateful every day 🙏🙏🙏🙏 for my little miracle. He is the best thing that has happened to us in our lives ❤️❤️❤️.

We've been trying for a sibling for three years and now the first attempt at donation has failed. It makes me sad and I don't want to give up.

I know what they say. After our miscarriage, my sister-in-law said that I should be happy because I have a child ... she has three children herself and is unfortunately not particularly blessed with intelligence.

Yes, I am grateful for my son. But there is a desire for a sibling and I don't want him to be alone. There is still someone missing in our family. There is still a lot of love and an empty nursery ☹️. I hope 🙏🙏🙏🙏 we can fill it.

Things are getting serious with the next transfer - probably Tuesday in a week's time. However, I have to go for another ultrasound next week because the uterine lining was only 6.5 mm today (cycle day 11). But that was my mistake, the clinic didn't actually want the ultrasound until next Monday, but I wanted it sooner to see if you can see the trilineage better with a thinner lining. Yes, it was trilinear, but still under 7 mm, which is why I have to go back now... Oh well. What I'm still waiting for is the result of the control biopsy regarding plasma cells and bacteria, they need more than 2.5 weeks for the result. I hope it comes before the transfer, and of course I hope that everything is OK now. But at least my leave for the transfer period has been approved, which is still such a stress factor to get it sorted... I hope so much that it works out this time and that it's the last time with all these stress factors and uncertainties, I'm getting fed up...

Good morning, I'm on my way to Aarhus now, tomorrow is transfer. I am traveling with very mixed feelings and am constantly wavering between "actually this attempt is a waste anyway" and "maybe it will work after all". The reason is: the result of the control biopsy came so late and only after countless requests that I had already booked the blasto transfer, train tickets, hotel etc. by then (the mucosa looked perfect on the second US, three lines and 9.5 mm) and no longer wanted to cancel everything. But: there are still plasma cells present - up to 10, probably very unevenly distributed - which means that the doxycycline has not worked. I am now supposed to take another antibiotic for a week. Another control biopsy after that is probably not necessary, because if the plasma cells continue to persist, nothing more can be done about them anyway. If they had told me the result sooner, e.g. after the promised two weeks, then I could have taken the antibiotic in this cycle and everything would have been fine! But like this... It annoys me so much! 😢

Oh Nini, how annoying! I'm very sorry about that. Above all, going into the TF with negative feelings is really stupid. It's already nerve-wracking anyway. Will you ask the Danes again tomorrow what they say about the plasma cells?
Perhaps a small ray of hope: when I had a biopsy after 4 TF in Germany and 12 plasma cells were found, I asked hopefully whether the cells were to blame for the fact that it hadn't worked. The doctor said very convincingly that a healthy embryo would have implanted anyway...

    Good luck tomorrow 🍀🍀🍀🍀

    Dear Nini,

all the best for the TF, my fingers are firmly crossed🍀! I also have an acquaintance who got pregnant in her late 30s despite an elevated PZ - a natural Ss while preparing for IVF. I can totally understand your anger though, but: don't drive yourself crazy. You now have a huge chance of getting pregnant with a good blasto werden❤️.

Well, I really can't recommend the Aagaard Clinic in Aarhus any more. Yesterday I sent an email asking for an assessment of the plasma cell results and a second email asking for a blood test for the progesterone level to find out whether one injection of Prolutex per day is sufficient or whether I should increase to two injections. I had of course hoped (and asked) that I would be able to clarify these questions in person today. But Dr. Cissé was "fully booked" today and the transfer was carried out by another doctor who is not responsible for the rest of the treatment (as with the previous transfers). In response to my written question about plasma cells, Dr. Cissé only wrote that the findings were in German and that he didn't speak German, so he couldn't give an opinion. Although I had already summarized everything important to him in English in the email and one would think that histological images and medical abbreviations such as CD138+ should be internationally understandable. To my question about the analysis of the progesterone value, he only said that one injection per day would be enough. Nothing about analysis. I then had blood taken today anyway at my own request (and at my own expense! 34 euros). The doctor who did the transfer, however, said that the measured progesterone value was not meaningful as the value would fluctuate too much over the day. And he also found the Prolutex injections unnecessary, as many patients had previously managed for years without them. Well, current studies, some of which I have already read, say something different...

Well, I haven't given up on the plasma cells and now have another online consultation with Dr. Cissé on Friday. I hope he'll be a bit more approachable. Overall, however, I'm starting to get the feeling that German patients are more of a nuisance in this clinic...
